Montessori Sensorial Life Activities for Preschoolers in Oakland, CA

In 1907, Maria Montessori developed a specialized curriculum that provides children ways to learn for themselves in a guided setting. That curriculum is now called the Montessori Method. At Oak Grove Montessori preschool in Oakland, our teachers are trained in the Montessori Method and provide both practical and sensorial life activities to our preschoolers. These life activities keep the children engaged and having fun with learning. See a few of our Montessori sensorial life activities for our educational preschool programs below:

  • Age 2 Sensorial – Pink Cube – Refinement of voluntary movement by placing the cubes one on top of the other with one single movement of the hand. While doing this movement, the child is refining visual-motor coordination and is called upon to concentrate.

  • Age 3 Sensorial – Colored Cylinder – Preparation for writing; coordination of the fingers used to hold the pencil. Refinement of voluntary movement. The child will be able to fit the cylinders with one precise movement. Preparation for mathematics.

  • Age 4 Sensorial – Binomial Cube – Preparation for mathematics: the cube of a binomial. Preparation for the cube root. Introduction for algebra and preparation for the proof of the formula (a+b)3 at Elementary Level.

  • Age 5 Sensorial – Trinomial Cube – Introduction for algebra and preparation for the proof of the formula (a+b+c)3 at Elementary Level. The blocks are color coded and are different sizes to represent the algebraic Binomial and Trinomial formulas. The purpose is not to teach math’s but to challenge the child to find patterns and spatial relationships.
